What to do if your roof is leaking during a Vermont storm

The goal is not to play roofer in dangerous weather. The goal is to limit damage, protect people and property, and gather enough information to make the next step faster.

Do this first

1. Move valuables and electronics away from active dripping.
2. Use buckets, towels, or plastic to protect flooring if it is safe to do so.
3. Take photos of the ceiling stain, drip point, and any visible exterior issue from the ground.
4. Note when the leak started and whether it changes with wind direction or rainfall intensity.
5. Submit the form as emergent if the leak is active, spreading, or tied to visible storm damage.

Do not do this

• Do not climb on a wet, icy, or storm-damaged roof.
• Do not assume the ceiling drip point is directly under the actual roof failure.
• Do not ignore small leaks during Vermont weather swings. Small leaks grow fast.

When it becomes an emergency request

If water is entering quickly, insulation is soaking, drywall is sagging, or wind damage has exposed roofing materials, treat it like an urgent stabilization problem.
