Sometimes a homeowner can handle a tiny isolated issue. Sometimes the visible problem is only the exposed edge of a bigger moisture risk.
Smaller issues
A minor loose trim piece or a very small isolated defect may be manageable if access is safe and the surrounding material is still sound.
Call a pro when
- Multiple pieces are loose or damaged
- Water is getting behind the siding
- The failure is high up, storm-related, or tied to trim and flashing details
- The repair needs material matching and weather-tightness, not just appearance
